Reagan is a five year old female blue and gold macaw. Reagan is character plus! She talks and talks and chitter chatters too. She says lots of words! She is active and playful and enjoys a lot of toys. She also likes to go outside and hang with the family. She eats an amazing varied diet! She does like to be handed her fruits and veggies, etc. Her favorite is cheese crackers with peanut butter. Reagan has been vet checked. She was declared a tad chubby so we did cut back on the 'snacks'. She will bite, she can be noisy and she loves to be outside of her cage. Reagan came to us with no flight feathers on her wings and no tail feathers so she was, well, a bit clumsy. Finally, her feathers are growing and she has not pulled them all out! But who knows for sure if she will have a full set of tail feathers or have a mind to pull them out. Reagan would do best with a seasoned bird owner but she is a whole lot of fun! Character plus indeed. Please note: no renters, no small children. Basic info: Macaws are slender birds with long tapered tails and strong, heavy bills. Macaws can and do bite! And they can bite hard. Macaws need a seed and or pellet diet as well as a wide variety of food especially fruit and veggies. Macaws require a large amount of space in a quality made cage or room with appropriate toys. Toys are extremely important! You can purchase toys appropriate for their size or make toys but please know you will need to invest in toys through-out their life. Macaws are considered gentle birds, however, all large macaws can be quite noisy and destructive. They have the bills to do great damage to wood work! These are intelligent birds! Think of them as intellectually at the level of a four or five year old child and emotionally at the level of a three year old child. They crave attention and require large amounts of stimulation. Please, please think about what it means to adopt a Macaw: do you have the time, the resources to care for this bird. And remember, the average life span is 60 or more years!
